Car Safety Belt

"Security" has become the primary issue considered by the driver and passenger, 

and also one of the most important performance of the automobile. 

Traditional components to ensure safe driving , such as the rear-view mirror and the door mirrors (the traditional rear-view system), seat belts, airbags and ABS (antilock braking system) have been widely known by the majority of drivers and passengers,

Seat belts can bound the drivers and passengers in their seats, 

which can prevent secondary collision, and its buffer function is able to absorb large amounts of kinetic energy, reducing the degree of injury to the crew.

Safety belt, as the basic protective equipment to protect people during a collision of a vehicle, was born earlier than the car. 

Back in 1885, safety belt appeared to use on the carriage , which aims to prevent the passengers from falling down of the carriage. 

On May 20, 1902, in New York, a car race was held, a racing driver tied himself and his companions to their seats using their belts 

in order to prevent being thrown off at high speed racing. 

During the competition, their car crashed into the audience by accident , leaving two people died and dozens injured, 

while the several riders survived because of the belt. 

The belt has become the prototype of safety belts, and has been first used in the car, which saved many lives.

In 1922, sports car racing field start to use safety belts; In 1955, Ford Motor installed car with a safety belt; 

In 1968, the U.S. Made a rule that front seats should be provided with safety belts. 

Europe, Japan and other developed countries have formulated requirement that a car passenger must wear safety belt. On November 15, 1992, 

China Ministry of Public Security issued a notice effective from July 1, 1993, that all cars (including cars, jeeps, vans, mini-cars) drivers and front seat passengers must use safety belts. The 51st point of  "Road Traffic Safety Law" provides that when driving the motor vehicles, 

the driver and occupants should use safety belts as rules; motorcycle drivers and passengers should be required to wear safety helmets.

Currently, the world's standard form of safety belts is three-point safety belt invented by Nils. This kind of car safety belt began to be acceptable in 1967. 

Nils published "28,000 accident reports " in the United States, which recorded  all traffic accidents in Sweden in 1966 that related to Volvo cars, 

and the figures clearly showed that three-point safety belt not only reduced or even avoided the chance of injury to passengers, also to saved their lives.

Since the safety belt has been available so far, there have been up to 10 million km of it, being put the world over in one billion car. 

Its length is sufficient to 250 laps rounding the Earth's equator, or to come and go to the moon for 13 times. 

While what is the most important thing is that safety belt saved countless lives in 40 years. That can strongly prove that three-point safety belts are effective and single-vehicle safety device.
